Mr. Chandan Sinha is a career central banker, having worked in the Reserve Bank of India for over 35 years. As an Executive Director(Apr. 2014 – May 2017) his responsibilities covered areas as diverse as supervision of banks & non-banks, debt management, foreign exchange department, financial market regulation, payment & settlement systems, information technology and management of forex reserves.


He has been a nominee Director on the Boards of Allahabad Bank, Union Bank of India, ECGC and more recently, the State Bank of India. He has served as the Additional Director as well as the Interim Director at the Centre for Advanced Financial Research and Learning (CAFRAL), an institution promoted by the Reserve Bank of India.


He has been member on several important working groups/committees of the Reserve Bank and its nominee on international committees of the Financial Stability Board (on bank resolution) and the Bank of International Settlements (BIS) (on banking regulation and payments & market infrastructures). He was a member of the Government of India Committee on Digital Payments and more recently, a member of the RBI Committee on Development of the Housing Securitization Market.


He has rich experience of the currency, debt and money markets as a result of his long association with the three market oriented departments of RBI (including as the head of the Financial Markets Department), a stint as the Chief Dealer with the Securities Trading Corporation of India (STCI) and as the founding Chief Investment Officer for the Investment Division of the Postal Life Insurance, Government of India.


He has co-authored papers on Corporate Bond Market Development in India and on Indian Financial Openness and Integration with South East Asian Countries. He has a Master’s degree in Physics from St. Stephens College, Delhi University, MBA in Finance and CAIIB from IIBF.
