
Deepak Amin is the key promoter of Light Microfinance. He co-founded Covelix, Inc, a US and India based international software consulting company, providing services to global enterprise technology companies. Covelix Inc was later acquired by Emtec Inc, a publicly traded software services multinational company based in the US. Earlier, he had founded vJungle, an online software services company, later acquired by Streamserve (now part of OpenText Corp). He has also worked at Microsoft, USA for number of years and led the original Internet Explorer browser team and was also lead engineer for Microsoft Windows Networking. An active angel investor in technology startup companies, Deepak has been a limited partner in venture capital funds based in the US and India.Putting his immense experience with technology to worthy effect, Deepak serves on the Technology Advisory Council of Grameen Foundation for Microfinance, USA, working to uplift the underprivileged by providing access to finance and technology. He has also served on the Advisory Board of National Science and Technology Entrepreneurship Development Board (Department of Science and Technology, Government of India), to promote technology entrepreneurship and innovation in India.
Deepak is currently an Independent Director on the board of SBI Life Insurance Ltd, India’s second largest and publicly traded life insurance company. He is the Chairman of the Technology Committee of the board and a member of the Audit Committee and the Risk Management Committee of the board. He also served as an Independent Director on the Board of State Bank of India (SBIN), a Fortune 500 company, India’s largest bank and a top 50 bank in the world. As Director, he was Chairman of the IT Strategy Committee and Member of the Audit Committee, Risk Management Committee, Special Committee for Monitoring Large Value Frauds, Corporate Social Responsibility Committee, Remuneration Committee and Stakeholders Committee of the Board.
Deepak did his Bachelor of Technology in Computer Science from the Indian Institute of Technology, Bombay and Master of Science in Computer Science from University of Rhode Island.
